I have a positive approach to teaching. I am very patient when I go through the lessons and go back and review any older material if it is needed in order to grasp the current lesson of the day. I believe all students can learn and use my training and experience to adapt my teaching strategies to individual learning styles. Using student interests can help direct teaching that improves students’ enjoyment of learning. For instance, when teaching reading to boys I have found that they often like to read more factual reading material about sports, science, history, mechanics, etc. Student interests change as they get older and reading material needs to be age appropriate. My first experience tutoring was in 8th grade when my 6th grade math teacher asked me to help some of his struggling students. I greatly enjoyed the experience and wanted to continue. I didn't get another chance to tutor until my freshman year of college. I volunteered to help a young man who could not take notes for himself. As the semester progressed, he asked for my help in understanding the material, so I began informally tutoring him in Biology. I also had the opportunity to tutor a young student in Short Calculus.
