A Little Bit About Me...

I believe in taking a casual approach in tutoring. From previous experience, I have found that many times students understand the material but tend to get flustered in a classroom environment. I provide guidance when needed, but sometimes students just need someone there to talk it out with them. If this is the case I like to ask questions until they find the answers themselves. This method not only teaches them the material, but also builds confidence because they realize they can figure out much of it themselves.

I am currently writing my thesis in order to finish my Master’s degree in applied physics. My research is on experiment fluid dynamics where I am studying the affects of viscosity on glycerin. I have incredible math and science skills that I would love to teach others. I worked at a community college were I learned different methods of teaching or tutoring others.
I believe that by letting the student try to answer the problem by them self is the best way of learning. I will try to guide them down the right path, but even a wrong answer can teach you a lesson. I also believe that practice is the best way to become good at science or math, like a basketball player practice basketball to become better, so must a student.

From my tutoring experience in college, I have learned that everyone has a different learning style. In order to be an excellent tutor, one needs to adapt to their tutee’s needs. One also needs to be patient with their tutee. It is very important to be able to explain a problem in several different ways in case the first few ways do not make sense to the tutee. I believe that the best way for a student to learn is through practice and determination. I do not hand the answers to my tutees, but rather I guide them through the problem so they are able to do the next one by themselves. I enjoy tutoring math and economics to students and receive great joy from their successes.

Having a Biochemistry degree, I am well trained in science classes. I was also required and excelled in math classes up to Calculus 3. Therefore, math and science are my strong points. What I learned most about my teaching style from my student-teaching experience is that I love connecting with my students. Each student is unique, and their learning styles vary.
