Academic Learning to Standards and Beyond!

In an effort to conjure mutual respect, I approach each student more like a peer rather than a teacher, although they know who is an charge. With my elementary students, I have been known to kick a soccer ball around with them or read them a book... schedule permitting. "Play time" is my pro bono contribution after a good lesson.

As an Adult Education teacher I taught learners from High School age through 70 year-olds. I taught office occupations; ESL; and GED, ABS, HS diploma and citizenship. I developed knowledge and skills in many content areas and in the management of students. I believe a large part of teaching is to find ways of motivating students to learn. I like to show my students how what they are learning applies to their everyday lives. As an psychiatric technician at Napa State Hospital, I was chosen to become a trainer, teaching a new computer system being implemented to nursing and other staff throughout the hospital. I developed classes and created lesson plans for those classes, as well as providing individual training. I held this position for 2 years.
