Sign Language is one of my top subjects! Currently, I am working as a community and educational interpreter. I completed an interpreter training program several years ago and have been signing for over 12 years.

I am flexible. Sign language can only be learned through repetition and practice, so there will be a lot of voice-off communication exchanges. Depending on the learning style of the student, I have several resources that can be incorporated into my lessons. Also, I prefer to know the goal of students to focus on specific vocabulary, if necessary, in effort to refrain from learning "extra" signs if becoming fluent in American Sign Language is not their goal.
Recently I have begun working as an American Sign Language instructor (adjunct professor) at a local community college and have been tutoring a variety of students outside of the classroom. I'm Mason, I was born as completely deaf but I got an cochlear implants when I was 4. I learned English first then sign language as my second language. I'm good at helping people to learn sign language but just let you know that I learned English Sign Language but right now I'm ;earning ASL in college, ASL is my minor. ASL is so much easier for me cause ASL is almost similar to ESL but different grammar and also some different signs. I also want to become an ASL professor in future. I have 15+ years experience, as i was raised as a coda child in an all deaf family. Hello, My name is Hazel Sherin and I am currently a Freshman at The New School. As a high school student I decided instead of taking a foreign language to take sign language as an alternative. Prior to taking ASL 1, I was completely unaware of Deaf Culture and The Deaf community. In learning some of the history and attending Deaf events, I rapidly fell in love with the language. Unfortunately, I only reached ASL 3, as I only started taking it as a Sophomore. Since then I have taken one ASL 2 course in college just as a review because that is all that is offered at my school. Sign Language is one of my top subjects! I am a certified (NIC) American Sign Language interpreter. I have been actively involved and working within the Deaf community for about 10 years.

For the past seven years I have worked full time as a job coach at Lexington Center for the Deaf Vocational Services Center in Jackson Heights, NY. I also volunteered in their Independent Living Center for two years prior to my employment with them. In 2010 I was a private tutor for a neighborhood adolescent, teaching him basic sign language to better help him communicate with his family, as he is unable to use his voice. I have also spent time volunteering at the Helen Keller National Center for DeafBlind Individuals, where I received training to become a certified Supported Service Provider (SSP).
