A Little Bit About Me...

I consider myself to be a "beginner" teacher as I have recently graduated college and received my license. I have spent roughly 500 hours in the field as a result of college course requirements, and I have successfully completed a 12 week internship (student teaching) experience. I have had the opportunity to work in many different subject areas and classroom settings with students of various backgrounds, ages, and learning styles.
I try to take a hands-on approach to teaching when possible. I find it helpful to use varied and often unusual objects and materials when teaching a lesson; it tends to make the material more memorable. However I am not above using the standard pencil/paper/textbook approach when needed.

I believe that the most important role of an educator is to be able to recognize the learning style of the student. Once this is established the student can be successful. All students can learn given the opportunity and appropriate tools necessary to achieve their potential. I also believe that learning must be fun for students to actively engage in the process. I am a life long learner and try to instill my passion for learning in my students.
I graduated from Ohio University in 1978 with a BS in Education. I went on to earn a Masters degree in Educational Administration. A Little Bit About Me...

I would to teach math because I have been applying math my entire life. I have a four year degree in mechanical engineering technology. I have used math extensively in my everyday job. The last sixteen years I have used math to figure out complex equations. My problem solving skills are good. I teach my kids math and reading.

The first thing that I like to do as a teacher is tell my students why I chose my profession. I think a little insight as to who I am, lets my students know how passionate I am about my job. All students do not learn in the same ways, nor do they learn at the same paces. It is my job to build upon my students' strengths, and make them believe that they can succeed.
I received my BS degree with the intent of gaining a MA in teaching. While I was obtaining my MA, I performed as a substitute teacher in several school districts. I had access to 2 long-term teaching positions. The first was for high school special education in history and the second was for 8th grade language arts. I have been a working graphic designer for most of my life after graduation from Ohio State. After 12 years of design I was asked to participate in an art and education program at Chicago Public Schools Autism Program. I was hired on the spot and then continued with education by obtaining a masters degree in special education in Tempe Arizona. In Arizona I was assigned as an inclusion teacher for 9, 10 11th grade English. I had to accommodate diverse learners and plan instruction.
