My general approach is to focus on the logical foundations of a given subject and then to exercise that knowledge on practical applications. I have a passion for teaching and helping others. While getting my law degree (more on that below), I tutored math at all levels (K thru College Algebra) at Huntington Learning Center in Jackson, MS. I built a strong reputation at the Center for working really well with students, finding the right approach for each student, and getting great results. I've worked as an actuary (highly math-oriented) for the Tennessee Department of Insurance and have spent most of my career working in the insurance industry where math is very much at the center of everything. As a tutor, I find that it is important to present the material to the students in a way that they can relate to. My job as an educator is to teach them how to learn it and make them want to learn it. I personally do not believe that negative reinforcement is beneficial.
