My teaching style is based on the student’s learning style. Each child is different and may require different teaching methods to facilitate learning. Some children are more visual and may require more interactive exercises to learn. I do not believe in spoon-feeding information to children but taking the time to ensure that they fully grasped the concept of a problem and are able to think through a solution on their own. I will work to develop their critical thinking skills and will challenge them, so that they are not just passive learners but active participants in the cognitive process. I utilize a varied and balanced set of teaching strategies that will meet the needs of all types of learners. First, I determine the student’s preferred learning style (auditory, visual, or kinesthetic) and tailor my lessons accordingly. I then try as much as possible to make our lessons as relatable to the student’s likes and interests. Currently I am a organic chemistry lecturer at a local college but I have always been an advocate of education. I have a PhD in organic chemistry and a BS in chemistry. My background has allowed me to understand a range of topics from math and science to English. I have tutored students for over 11 years and I recently was a mentor to a high school student for two years.
I have loved to teach every since I was a young girl playing school with my younger siblings. Since that time I have observed several different teaching and learning styles. As an instructor, I try to incorporate several different teaching styles to accomodate the students in my class. I set high expectations for my students and equip them with the knowledge to reach their full potential. I believe education is the key to success and everyone should have equal access to the opportunities education can provide.
