Teaching is a passion of mine. I enjoy teaching students of all ages. I believe that kindness, patience, and understanding are necessary characteristics when teaching students. As the manager and head chemist of a solid fuels testing laboratory I have many years of experience training both high school and college interns. I acquired a Bachelors of Science in Biology, with a minor in Chemistry from the University of MN, Duluth. I also have a broad math and physics background, and have a great enthusiasm for both.
I would very much like to enter the teaching world so that I might share the knowledge that I have acquired over the years. I am currently a medical student at the University of Minnesota Medical School Duluth. Before I started medical school I worked as a tutor for six years with two teenage boys with autism. Under the six years of my tutoring, both of these "disabled" kids were completely mainstreamed and even taking some AP and challenge classes. I believe that any kid can learn if they are taught in a way that is fun and structured. I tutored these kids in Math, Science, Social Studies and English. I also spent a semester as a Teaching Assistant in an upper level Philosophy course during my undergrad. Most of my TA tutoring was helping college students write papers.

Teaching is a very important part of learning; it is an ongoing process that is active and not static. My style of teaching is less conventional than most at a large university due to my liberal arts undergraduate education. I think that many students learn different ways and it is important to let the learner control the learning process. As an instructor you provide guidance and an outline for success, but that outline should be adapted to the individual.
