I believe in following the Socratic method in my teaching, and encourage students to ask questions and take command of their own learning. Frequently I will have the students take turns presenting problems or answers to questions that they have asked me themselves in class before. I've found that occasionally the best way for a student to learn is to have them research the answers to their questions on their own, and present their findings to the class as a whole. I find it equally important for students to understand the why of what they are learning as well as the how and the what. I have always enjoyed mentoring children. I started coaching youth soccer when I was 17. While at Emory I coached a U-13 club soccer team and I was asked by parents to tutor some of the players off the field. While I worked in finance I volunteered in the International Telementor Program, which allowed me to provide online tutoring to children from all over the country.
