Learning is a journey. I have a map but you have the wheels

As a lifelong learner I understand the importance of an effective teacher. I have been teaching and assisting college level classes for 2 years as a Graduate Teaching Assistant. I have experience working with both audio/visual learners and a kinesthetic/tactile learner. The kinesthetic/tactile learner had learning disabilities akin to ADD, but still did very well in the small group environment. Three teachers impacted my life not only as a result of the content of their classes but in their delivery. All three approached learning as an adventure. Even though the topics ranged from sixth grade mathematics to fluid dynamics each teacher keyed their presentation on the reception of the students. If the first presentation didn’t get the topic across an alternative presentation was made, often in a humorous vein. Students were never allowed to feel inadequate. Many of the students I trained were sent by their employers. So often, the student’s frame of mind wasn’t the most open to the learning experience.
