My preferred method of teaching is hands-on, through real experiments. Unfortunately, experiments cannot always be done, so I use lots of illustrations and age-appropriate analogies that are easy to relate to. Many times students are convinced that science is a subject too difficult to conquer, that they must just survive it, but science is all around us. I strive for that "a-ha" moment when a student realizes that all biological and physiological processes are interrelated and that the trick to understanding science is to build on previously learned concepts. I believe that teaching solid fundamentals and relating more difficult topics to already learned information is key to helping students thoroughly understand the subject.

A Little Bit About Me...

Graduated the University of Texas at Austin with a B.S. in mechanical engineering and a Spanish minor. During my time at UT I tutored peers in introductory college courses such as physics, calculus, and chemistry and proctored a dormitory as a resident adviser. My experience as a team leader in company-sponsored design projects has taught me the importance of certain skills such as writing, presenting, delegating, and note-taking when pursuing engineering or other science related careers. Recently, I have pursued my passion of teaching by acquiring my teacher certification in high school science. I want to pass on the knowledge and excitement of the sciences, and to successfully prepare students for college and beyond.
