I prefer the Socratic method of asking/answering questions and discussion, but I am more than capable of diverting to a more lecture style of teaching if that is what works with the student. I tailor my teaching style to the strengths of the student.

Aerospace Engineer with tutoring experience

I teach through examples and Q&A. I strongly encourage students to interrupt with questions as the occur. I have found through my own education, I am unable to focus or concentrate when thinking of another question. Often small benign questions can lead to larger answers or breakthroughs for students.
I have mentored/ tutored elementary students in first Lego league competition while as college student. Additionally I worked as a tutor and grader for the U of I. I love hands-on learning, however some math topics don't always lend themselves to that. Geometry has always been my favorite topic to teach. I tend to be the traditional teacher in showing students how to do problems, but I try to make them understand the background. I bring in real life problems when I can.
I retired from teaching public schools in Alabama after 25 years in 1998. Since then I worked as a contract trainer for 2 student information system software companies. I currently teach at Calhoun Community College in Decatur, AL, ITT-Tech in Madison, AL, and Alabama A & M in Huntsville, AL. As you saw above, I have my Master's Degree in Math Education.
