A Little Bit About Me...

As an adjunct faculty instructor at the University of North Alabama, I teach students in a public speaking course through a series of class lectures, individual and group activities, live performances, examinations, and out of class assignments. I work on skills such as audience and situational analysis, research, organization, delivery, body language, and listening. My goal is to make my students more at ease with public speaking by teaching them how to be successful at it in a variety of situations. My activities and assignments are meant to challenge their critical thinking skills while improving their performance skills and help me to offer more individualized instruction. While teaching 9th grade world history in Haleyville, I covered the time period from roughly 1500 to present. I taught them about the rise out of the “dark ages” and world exploration, the Renaissance and ... read more

My comments on tutoring Algebra I : I have tutored students in Algebra I before.

I am a teacher with 7 years of classroom experience. My degree is in English, but I have taught in many other areas, including math, history, logic, and rhetoric. I have also tutored many students in grammar and writing, as well as Algebra I and II. I have been responsible for teaching books to students from American Literature (Hawthorne and Hemingway), European Literature (Dickens and Shakespeare), and World Literature (Gilgamesh and Homer).
I prefer the Socratic method of asking/answering questions and discussion, but I am more than capable of diverting to a more lecture style of teaching if that is what works with the student. I tailor my teaching style to the strengths of the student.

Aerospace Engineer with tutoring experience

I have mentored/ tutored elementary students in first Lego league competition while as college student. Additionally I worked as a tutor and grader for the U of I. I grading homework of fellow students, giving me good insight in where people often struggle. I also tutored technical courses for undergraduate students. These courses included, physics 1-3, intro Chem, linear algebra, calculus, electrical and aerospace engineering course. After graduating I began working as a full time engineer, but remain available to tutor for individuals.
I teach through examples and Q&A. I strongly encourage students to interrupt with questions as the occur. I have found through my own education, I am unable to focus or concentrate when thinking of another question. Often small benign questions can lead to larger answers or breakthroughs for students.

A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching is my passion. Students need to be challenged, engaged, and eager to learn which is fueled by the enthusiasm of the teacher. I recognize that not every student in my classroom learns in the same manner. Various teaching methods need to be combined so that students have the opportunity to learn in multiple ways. The more opportunities that are available for a student to learn, the more valuable the education becomes for the student. Therefore, the most successful teaching technique is one that involves a variety of different methods where relevance is the umbrella in order to accommodate every student's unique learning style and needs inside and outside of the classroom.
As a special education teacher, I am highly motivated to see all students succeed both inside and outside of the classroom setting. I have earned a bachelor degree in Political Science with a minor in Histo ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated from one of the top teaching schools in the nation (according to NCATE), and have a degree in elementary and special education. I specialized in math education, but am also qualified to teach English, science, and social studies. I have worked with children as young as 2 years old and as old as 15 in a formal setting. I have helped children go from hating a subject to being successful and loving it.
I first and foremost believe that every child can learn, and I refuse to entertain any idea that says otherwise. I have found that a constructivist approach works best for most children, and I will always try this approach first. I try to make learning as hands on and relevant to the real world as possible.
