My comments on tutoring Science : I have an expansive background in the field of science. I have two degrees in the field of the sciences. My first degree was animal science / pre-veterinary medicine. This required me to take a lot of scientific based courses. After serving 4 years in the US Air Force I got out and completed my undergraduate degree in chemistry at the University of West Florida. I relate well to high school and college students. I may not articulate as much, but I want the student to see that I am giving my time to serve their needs and not my own. Loosely speaking, I am also a proponent of multiple intelligences. The creative teacher can usually identify a way to relate material and content using a methodology that connects. My teaching style is based in facts. I philosophically reject radical post-modernity which posits that truth is a moving target. The student does not have the right to tell me that 1+1 = 3 because 1+1 = 2. I have tutored students for many of the college science classes. I have also been a tutor for an elementary school in Bloomington. I am also an experienced test prep tutor, having helped students prepare for everything from class tests to the GED, SAT, and ACT.
I have learned that the best way to teach is to let the student know how much you enjoy the subject and then work to make them feel the same way.
