Chemical Engineering is one of my top subjects!

I have taught over 20 students during my undergraduate and graduate study. Most of the students that I have taught are engineering students who need help with the basic understanding of concepts and visualizing problems. The subjects that I normally teach are Chemical Engineering subjects, Engineering Physics, Chemistry and Basic Math classes. My wife teaches Computer Science, she possesses a Master's degree in Computer Science and has taught Java and C++ during her grad school. She has a good knowledge in programming and can help with beginner to intermediate level programming concepts.
I find out what exactly the student is lacking in the subject by asking a few basic questions on the topic and make a judgement of the student's understanding on the topic and then proceed forward. I was a technical instructor for an oil/gas company for just over 5 years. We focused on competency based training along with ensuring skills would transfer into the workplace. Prior to that, I graduated from a highly technical private engineering school with a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering. The school was on a trimester schedule so that we could finish a normal 5 year degree in only 4 years so it was a highly demanding program. When I was in high school, I volunteered to tutor students in math and science during my study hall hour. I was also in AP math, science and english classes. I tested out of Calculus I in college by scoring a perfect score on the AP math test out of high school.

I believe that if I can understand something, then everyone else can. I help students by convincing them that they can understand to build up confidence. Students and I work at what needs to be memorized such as formulas and basic concepts, learning to apply and work with these basics step by step, and at the same time, as I watch, strengthening weak areas. I often times use diagrams as needed and supply additional material.
Some years ago a friend told me that volunteer help was really needed for the adult GED program in our local area. I decided to give up time for two hours a week.
