I have two years tutoring experience. In college, I tutored college students who struggled with math (algebra, trigonometry, calculus, etc). Other experience I have is derived from having taken and successfully passed (A) those courses I can tutor. I also help and tutor students who would like to learn how to play piano by ear, chords (major, minor, diminished, augmented), hear a song and determine chords, accompanying a singer, etc. I have experience in playing piano by ear for churches from almost 2 years. I have an Indiana Professional Teacher's License in all music levels.I have been a school music teacher for over 18 years, a music contest accompanist, private piano and instrumental teacher for over 15 years. I have served as a music contest judge. I was a 10 year member of the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir, a church choir director for 10 years and a music leader in church for over 20 years. While I enjoy working with a younger population, I have had more experience with middle school, high school, and college students. I have a descriptive way of teaching, but I am also a firm believer in using abstract methods in order to obtain and understanding. After graduating with honors from Grove City College, I took a position as a writer for a large nonprofit organization in Washington, DC. While working as a professional writer, I dedicated my free time to tutoring at a center for urban kids.
Learning must be fun, especially in a tutoring context. In my previous tutoring experiences, I always attempted to turn tasks into games or opportunities for creative expression.
