I have a high level of experience teaching in multiple fields. I have trained horses, which takes non-verbal communication, patience, kindness, clear directions, and strong leadership skills. As an undergraduate student at both my junior college and university, I was inspired to spread the joy of learning and understanding English. I have earned a BA in Global Studies and Maritime Affairs, which has enabled me to expand my knowledge base about international affairs and the maritime industry. This coming March I will graduate with a MS degree in Emergency Management. This degree has given me a fantastic background in understanding leadership and management techniques. The Pennsylvania State University awarded my a graduate teaching fellowship for the duration of my masters studies. This fellowship allowed me to teach two college level courses in world literature, English composition and rhetoric, and French. While at Humboldt State, I completed the College Faculty Preparation Program. This program significantly improved my teaching pedagogy. With regards to tutoring, I feel that it is extremely important to understand and draw on the student’s learning style. As a kinesthetic learner, I frequently promote tactile learning while also introducing elements of visual, auditory, and/or reading/writing exercises, depending on what works best for the student.
