I worked for an organization called AS220. It is an arts organization with a youth program that works inside the juvenile detention facility and also has a community program for youth in group homes and recently released from prison. My first position was incorporated art into the curriculum of classrooms in the juvenile detention facility to enhance the learning experience of the students by making it hands-on. My end position was as Managing Director. During that time, I studied and implemented art programs to teach job readiness skills and finding innovative ways for learning to take place. Since that time, I have spent the last 3 years as an events manager on a cruise ship, seeing places all over the world. I have also co-lead a 2 1/2 week canoe trip with 6 teenagers. Creative Writing is one of my top subjects! Creative Writing allows me to put my ideas and thoughts on paper to allow me to go back and improve on my ideas in poetry, journalism, blogging, and fashion photography. I am most passionate about Creative Writing because it helps improve writing skills, creativity, vocabulary, pronunciation and thought process.

My first job right after turning 16 was working as a photographer and journalist for the local newspaper in my hometown. My main job was working with the teen section; GeneratioNext asking questions, taking polls, and writing articles that were teen related to teen issues, college and continuing education, and career goals. Throughout my junior high school and high school years I worked closely with the editor of the school newspaper as a writer, and with the yearbook committee taking classes in journalism and photography. When I started pursuing my associates while enrolled at San Antonio College I took photography classes more for recreation and to hone my hobby and appreciation for photos, editing, and working behind the camera. During my time at International Academy of Design & Technology I have written and submitted several articles to the school based student magazine distributed ... read more

I take a servant leadership, customer-oriented approach to my responsibilities. I routinely try to answer the following question: What can I do to help students achieve their goals? For research papers, I encouraged students to pursue their own interests, such as a subject related to their major, in order to give them a better opportunity to enjoy the research process as opposed to merely fulfilling an exercise requirement.
From January 2006 through August 2008, I worked part-time as a freshman composition instructor, writing lab tutor, and teaching assistant for the English department at UNT. As an instructor, I taught two classes per long semester and one, intensive summer session. A Little Bit About Me...

I firmly believe that you learn best when you're having fun. Once a topic fascinates you, your mind automatically engages more, which helps you remember better. So I work to draw students in by keeping things interesting, using fun examples, humor, and applying things to areas they will actually care about. I want to make you actually WANT to learn. I have a very adaptable teaching style. If one explanation isn't helpful, I'll try to approach from a different perspective, until we get something that works. I also prefer to encourage children to figure things out themselves, using only a light hand to guide them in the right direction. It builds problem-solving skills, gives you a sense of achievement, and keeps you actively involved.
I've always had a love of learning, and have naturally slipped into an informal tutor role with friends. During high school I took several AP tests ... read more

I have tutored at least 25 students total (about 5 per semester), and so I have had experience with tutoring students with a variety of needs.
I recognize that each meeting is unique, and I have a great amount of patience and empathy. I am calm and open, and I want to do what I can for my students to feel at ease in discussing their writing. Understanding my students' needs and providing a good atmosphere of dialogue are priorities. I think that the written word is very important, and I want to do what I can to help students feel comfortable with this form of communication.

I have received rigorous instruction as to punctuation, grammar, syntax, and composition rules since my years of mandatory education. The knowledge and application of the same have expanded thanks to the years spent in college and at the university, where I have also had to use the notions in order to effectively communicate verbally and in writing. In the professional arena, I have been a Linguist, an Interpreter, a Translator, a Language Instructor, a Mediator, a Program Manager, and a Technical Writer. I have utilized the notions learned in school, as well as the opportunity to refine them in these professionally held roles, where clarity of text, verbal message, and direction of discourse are vital for successful outcomes. I can speak many foreign languages including Spanish, Italian, French, Portugese and Latin.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is to do whatever works, and to get it done. I pride myself on working with my students on their level and being able to understand their personal barrier to grasping the material. I am very conscious of not imposing upon them the way it "should be done". The way it should be done is whatever way makes sense to them and as a tutor, I work hard to find this "way". I have developed the patience to work with students at their pace and to also challenge them to expand their boundaries. Ultimately, patience and persistence are what can be used to summarize my teaching style.
I have been tutoring since 2006 and have covered a broad range of subjects during my time. My teaching style is one in which I strive to engage students in the subject by both instructing and challenging them to think on their own. I also strive to accomplish this goal in such a manner that the student experiences the fun that is a part of learning, but one that also emphasizes the importance of the learning process as well. In all of my tutoring and teaching experiences, I communicate how critical good study habits are: self-discipline; finding a quiet place to study; punctuality; attention to detail; following the rules; etc.
