I've experienced continued success with my teaching strategies which I have to vary hourly due to the diversity of the student population I work with. I am happy to offer individual training or will work with a group as large as 20. I hold a current certification in Business Education, grades 6-12. I work in a high school alternative setting, my students may be diploma bound or they make be working toward taking the GED. I have been teaching Professional Development classes at McNeese State University for the past 11 years. I have worked in a number of positions that have required me to teach and train, whether that be as an instructor at a local radio station who was responsible for preparing DJs to broadcast or a tutor in Hong Kong who was responsible for developing the English skills of a number of non-native speakers at all levels. My experience is backed up by my certification to teach English as a second language and a track record as somebody who writes at a professional level. I prefer one-on-one work with the students that stresses not simple correction or copy editing but legitimate comprehension on the part of my charges. My teaching style is comprehensive and rigorous and requires serious involvement and passion on the student's part. I do not hand-hold and I do not coddle but I am not uncaring: students learn best from experience, and that's something I can provide.

I have the capability to not only understand but fluently express any material. have done extensive research into tutoring and student-teacher bonds, an aspect I feel is important. I present the fact that the session is a time to learn yet enjoy. I always use my love for knowledge to improve the child's interest in learning - enhancing motivation. I supply the student with a notebook to be used for our sessions which seems to have increased the frequency the student works out of session. I was a teacher of English for 30 years at three high schools in The Netherlands, my last job being a teacher/tutor at "Bisschopelijk College" (Episcopal College)in Weert Holland from 1980 to September 2005. I then emigrated to Texas and married an American in 2006. I taught students ranging between the age of 11 and 19 years of age.
