I do a demonstration while I lecture on a particular point, i.e., perspective, form, light, color theory, etc., then let them have time to execute a given assignment in class. At this point I give them personal attention. I have a "critque" at the end of the session and have them participate. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Lindenwood University. As a sophomore I was chosen as one of Lindenwood University’s History Tutors, a position I maintained until graduation in 2009. My primary responsibilities included: conducting exam study sessions, grading exams and assignments, and providing one on one tutoring (f.e. implementing study tactics, test review, editing). Currently, I am embarking on the pursuit of Graduate School.
The foundation of my academic experience starts with Mrs. Cox, a teacher for over 30 years and a mother of four — my mother. I always try to be very patient and supportive when I'm tutoring. I am a strong believer in the Socratic method of teaching, which from my understanding, means asking the student questions regarding what they already know about a concept in order to customize the lesson and/or "lead" them to the answer. I also try to use analogies and real life examples that are tailored according to the interests of my student. For example, if my student is interested in sports, then I try to use sports analogies and examples to describe difficult concepts.
