A Little Bit About Me...

I am a dual scholarship recipient and graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo. For my bachelors of science degree, I studied Biomedical Sciences/Biochemical Pharmacology and graduated Summa Cum Laude. I was a primary teaching assistant in the university's dissection biology course and lab. Additionally, I mentored incoming pre-medical students academically and for career management and have taken various college level art courses. I have recently completed the requirements to earn a doctor of medicine degree (M.D.) from SUNY Buffalo and will graduate in April 2011. I have a contracted general surgery internship for our US Army at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center. I have served as an Army Medical Officer for 2 years.

A Little Bit About Me...

I found a lot of satisfaction in tutoring in college and felt that I was an effective teacher. My students did well in courses that they had been struggling to pass. I use a step-by-step approach starting with what the student knows and connect to everyday life experiences. This approach works particularly well in subjects like physics or chemistry. While a good test score is the goal, I may teach fundamentals so the student understands the subject. This facilitates learning and memorization.
I graduated cum laude from D'Youville College with a BS degree in biology and a minor in chemistry. At D’Youville in 2001-2003 I tutored advanced sciences. As a future medical school student, I worked very hard throughout my undergraduate career and was able to obtain a B.S. in both Cellular Neuroscience and Psychology in only 3.5 years. I have participated in Biomedical research both at Allegheny College (neurodegeneration in Drosophila melanogaster) as well as at the University of Pittsburgh (aggregation kinetics of the huntingtin protein). Furthermore, I volunteered at Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Crawford County as a Big Brother. Through the mentoring program as well as the Allegheny College football team, I gained experience tutoring other players as well as helped my "little brothers" with their homework whenever necessary.
