I feel very strongly about the importance of a good education. Having a degree in English, I have much experience in using proper grammar, technical writing skills and creative writing skills. I have tutored students in the area of English, biology, history and some spanish. I have always loved working with children. Through my experience as a special education instructor, I have learned children can learn in a variety of ways. My teaching philosophy is that each child has different strengths, and it is imperative to tailor an educational program to these strengths. By highlighting what a student is good at, their confidence is increased. This confidence will help them overcome academic obstacles. Piano Pedagogy, as my minor, helped me learn and analyze teaching methods. I studied piano, with weekly lessons, for 15 years of my life. I then taught piano lessons. I typically taught 25 lessons per week for 18 months. I was then offered a teaching position for The Academy for Global Exploration, a college-preparatory private school that takes students on adventure travel semesters, covering their studies in various locations. We went to South Africa. The courses I covered every day throughout the semester included Health, Sociology, World Literature and American Literature. The thing that interests me most about music learning is the resultant strengthening in the brain’s neural synapses. For this reason, it is an effective study for improving the fine motor skills of stroke patients, as well as for developing and strengthening the neural firing patterns across the cerebral cortex

I am a traditional(old school)style teacher. A professor told us "You cannot teach them if you do not have their attention." Treat the students the way you want to be treated, with respect and honesty. My three rules are: Respect for oneself. Respect for others. Responsibility for your actions. With this in place, the subject is introduced, explanations/examples discussed, questions answered, the assignment given, with the understanding if it is not finished in class it is homework.
