A Little Bit About Me...

Tutoring style may vary.
I have prior tutoring experience with ELD (English Language Development) students at Vinland Elementary. I majored in vocal music, & previously held a medical coding cert (CCA) through the American Health Information Management Association. My mother is a retired elementary teacher, and owing to being on 2 different tracks for some years, I practically grew up in her classroom. For a while, no summer vacation was safe! I was still in class, and often helping. As an adult, I continued to help so much that at one point they actually offered me a tutoring job on campus. I have also worked for the City of Manhattan Beach's parks & rec, in the creative arts center. Between elementary schools, and parks & recreation, I have developed a rapport with many students.

Writing is one of my top subjects! I have a broad range of writing from an extensive college background to having a writing-intensive profession.

To use class material as a core of what is being taught, but also adding extra information when relevant to understanding the material, offering tips and advice, and a sharp eye for finding mistakes and the tact to offer constructive criticism to help overcome and prevent future mistakes.
Not only have I tutored my nieces and nephews throughout their K-12 and even into college, I have a background in copy editing, I have been in a few minor publications, I am a competent mathematician, and I have a deep fascination and interest in science. My education is in psychology, philosophy, and English Writing, and I have a broad understanding of social/political theories, biology, math and algebra, and earth science. I am also highly knowledgeable of many books that are commonly assigned for high school readings.

My comments on tutoring Writing : I have been writing my entire academic career.

I have been a tutor for over four years. I enjoy tutoring and teaching a variety of subjects to whoever wants to learn. Learning for the sake of learning is one of the most important things I have learned in college and that is how I apply myself to tutoring. School should not be about just memorization; it should be about learning for the sake of learning.
I tutor not for facts, but for concepts and how everything fits into the "big picture."

A Little Bit About Me...

Worked as a Teacher's assistant with Learning disabled student's in a classroom setting. Tutored students in reading who were learning disabled. My goal was to teach my student's to read well enough to fill in job applications. Those on a third grade reading level, reached a fifth grade reading level or better. When I tutored them. Three years drama, I have done community theater.
I like to work with students individually, but sometimes a group is fine. I have the student read the assigned reading, Ask student to sound out words they are having trouble with. If they cannot read selection and it is short I will have them read it again. Longer selections are broken into parts. Drama is more flexible, tapping into emotions, and developing character styles

I just graduated high school, and I was a really good student. I never failed any classes at all. I have taken advanced classes since I started middle school.Despite moving about three times, I always kept my school grade up no matter what. Tutoring people is a good way to help and give back to the community. I want to try to help others further their education.

THE BEST TUTOR YOU CAN FIND!

I have over 15 years' experience working with people and teaching different subjects as they related to my jobs. I have over 12 years' experience proofreading transcripts for court reporters. I was a training officer at the Madera County Jail where I trained new employees in working in the jail, but also report writing and testifying in court. I did my internship for college at the Juvenile District Attorney's Office and wrote and briefs for the court and prepared cases. I was a volunteer for the juvenile court system where I went out to homes and taught parents how to be parents and checked their homes to make sure the children were safe and cared for. I then wrote a report for the court on the progress of that family. I have always been the leader in any study group I have ever been in and have found myself teaching my fellow classmates the subject matter in several classes I've been i ... read more

Education is the key to success.

I have always had a passion for giving back to people. I love Math and English, In junior college I took 16 units (four classes) all dealing with english or liberal arts. I excelled in physics and biology in high school. I have a year of experience directly working with 1st - 6th grade students in an after school program.
I believe in inclusion. I find that the best way to teach someone is to make him or her appreciate the subject and apply learned topics to his or her life.

A Little Bit About Me...

My style of tutoring is skills-focused, with a goal of student independence. I am patient and work to facilitate a student’s ability to do the work herself, by giving her strategies for navigating her own work, and helping her to see, or mentally organize, reading and writing in new ways. Positive encouragement and building self-confidence are always important to me. Finally, I feel students learn best while doing meaningful work toward their own academic goals within a safe, fun environment. Tutoring is a joyful challenge and privilege for me and I look forward to helping more students in the future.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have known that teaching is my calling since I was a Freshman in high school. Learning how everything works has always facinated me and sharing that has been equally rewarding. I believe that learning can be fun when it is relevant and interactive. Students have to be given a vested interest in the learning process, asked questions. An environment of trust in which student's inquiry is encouraged is the best way of learning. Moreover, I thing that teachers have to use complementing mediums for teaching (ie. Visual aids, sensory aids, stories, music, etc.).
I'm a senior at Fresno State, soon I will have a B.A. in History, which certifies my ability to research, analyze, and write proficiently.
