A Little Bit About Me...

I am a 2014 graduate of Marymount University where I received a Masters in Special Education. I have teaching experience at both the elementary and middle school levels. In middle school, I focused on teaching 7th grade Math, but am comfortable in Language Arts as well. Along with teaching, I have been a nanny for many years and therefore have experience with kids beyond the classroom.
I believe each person is unique and different. Therefore, my teaching style is individualized depending on the student and their needs. I do however believe in a hands-on, interactive approaches in order to keep students engaged and interested in learning.

ADD/ADHD is one of my top subjects! I use a variety of techniques to engage students and make learning fun and interactive. I also understand that students learn differently. One of the first things I will do is determine how a student learns best so I can adapt my teaching to fit that student's needs.

My career as a teacher has taught me the importance of extending learning beyond the classroom. My work with families has made me sensitive to the needs of all students from a variety of different cultures and backgrounds. I have excellent teaching and verbal communication skills. I differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students and to address multiple learning styles. Most importantly, I believe all students can learn.
I believe I have the skills set and passion needed to successfully tutor a variety of students. I have a Specialist degree in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment and I am a certified teacher with a master’s in Special Education. I currently teach adults studying for their GED. I also taught a self-contained, city-wide program in the District of Columbia Public School system for four years for students with multiple disabilities. Both settings have mad ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Not every method works for every child; with one exception, patience. I demonstrate and exemplify patience. If a child feels as though they are in an atmosphere where they are safe, free of ridicule and bias, then they are willing to perform. This process can be a give take scenario however. So, some flexibility is required as well, but eventually the student will become more comfortable with themselves and confident in what they are capable of.
With all of my experience and education, I have had the opportunity to work with all facets of children; from those who require a great deal of help, to those who might just need a little more challenge then what their work was providing them. Having worked with large and diverse groups of children I have assisted in English, math, science, and social studies from grade school to high school. I am very dedicated and passionate about what ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

While in college, I spent my time home from school substitute teaching through Frederick County Public Schools. After graduation from American University, I continued to substitute and in the fall of 2005 I took a part-time position at a middle school, teaching Theatre Arts and Music Performance Lab. While teaching, I began my teaching certification through the Maryland State Department of Education, where I completed a course called Inclusion: Making it Happen. I also taught dance at Dance Unlimited and Elite Feet Dance studios in addition to working at numerous children's theatre camps throughout Maryland and West Virginia.
I feel that I do my best work with Elementary age children. I like to make education fun and easily accessible. I love using games and hands on activities to teach lessons. My 5th grade teacher made such an impact on me that I have kept her on as a huge part o ... read more

With a Bachelor degree in Chemistry my educational background is very strong in Math and Science. I have spent the last fifteen years in the high school environment helping students in all areas of their academic day. I feel very current with all standardized testing that has been thrown my way as I have assisted with administering SATs and Pa Assessments at our local Pennsylvania high school, and helped students in their prep for these tests.
In 12 years as a high school teaching assistant, I have worked primarily with individual students in a wide range of subjects ranging from art, literature and history, to science and mathematics. This has provided me with interpersonal skills and a pool of knowledge that will be invaluable in a tutoring setting. Flexibility is a necessary skill in an educational system. Every child can learn and children learn at different levels. A teaching style must change to meet the needs of the child because what may work for one child may not work for another. I am patient and kind with students while still being firm when teaching students. I use positive reinforcement to achieve goals. I like to form a good relationship with the students because students do their best work when they are trying to please others.
When I first attended college I studied elementary education. I put my education on hold to stay at home and raise my children. During that time I was a compulsive volunteer with different support groups within the school system. I decided to complete my education as my children got older and received my bachelors degree and continued to take classes so that I am now able to sit for my CPA and I have also completed the necessary undergraduate ... read more
