Math Rocks!!! Help me spread the love.

My style of teaching/tutoring involves one on one and small group sessions. I feel we work from using the student’s strengths to build math vocabulary, math concepts, math relationships, developing math knowledge and algorithmic skills. I want the students to feel comfortable communicating using math to get help. I strongly believe that to understand math you have to put forth effort to try and do math. I want the learning environment to be relaxed and comfortable. Depending on what type of math and the concepts that need help different tutoring techniques will be used such as: building relationship, hands-on activities, and interactive virtual manipulatives.

I was a tutor for math and science while attending college. My work consists of graphing, defining requirements through mathematics, statistical analysis, and many other technical services. I have worked as a ventilation engineer, an industrial hygienist, and am currently a manager for a consulting company. A Little Bit About Me...

I recently graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Human Development. However, before Human Development was my major, it was English Language. Through my four years at a major university, I have learned how to properly write research essays, what sources are credible for essays, and essay format. I also have had a pet-peeve for words that are incorrecly spelled and when there are grammatical errors in something professionally done.
I believe that children all come with different levels of cognition. Therefore, each child has their own learning pace. I like to give a child the time that he needs in order to accomplish his goal in learning. I have patience and am understanding--this would be a great benefit in working with children who need a little extra help in their studies.

I did my internship at Springville High School and Dixon Middle School. At Dixon I was selected to help teach adults about the computer. I have 9 children. I was able to teach each of them. Some of them have gone on to higher education and have scholarships. I still have some at home and enjoy teaching them.
I like the tutoring environment because I like seeing individual progress. It is easier to assess where the child is. I believe that the basics are essential to moving forward in education. When I was younger I had a really tough time with my speech and with my reading/comprehension. I went through school constantly having to work slower and harder than most students in my class. I was so determined to get better at my learning disabilities that I decided to go to a tutor. With the extra great help and assistance I was able to catch up to most students in my class and continued to excel throughout grade school. I earned my Degree at BYU-Idaho where I majored in Math and minored in Health. While in college I taught some lower level math classes. I went on to work at a year round school working with troubled teens. I was able to learn many different teaching strategies to work with different personalities.
