Math Rocks!!! Help me spread the love.

My style of teaching/tutoring involves one on one and small group sessions. I feel we work from using the student’s strengths to build math vocabulary, math concepts, math relationships, developing math knowledge and algorithmic skills. I want the students to feel comfortable communicating using math to get help. I strongly believe that to understand math you have to put forth effort to try and do math. I want the learning environment to be relaxed and comfortable. Depending on what type of math and the concepts that need help different tutoring techniques will be used such as: building relationship, hands-on activities, and interactive virtual manipulatives.
I have had experience tutoring and teaching Algebra I and II from a being a teacher. I feel very comfortable with all types of math. I have worked in small and large group environments to one-on-one. From the engine ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that stepping through any problem and trying to find a "hint" to help work through similar problems will contribute to a student succeeding.
I was a tutor for math and science while attending college. My work consists of graphing, defining requirements through mathematics, statistical analysis, and many other technical services. I have worked as a ventilation engineer, an industrial hygienist, and am currently a manager for a consulting company. My math skills brought me to Washington, D.C. to present a statistical analysis to the National Mining Association for comments to a proposed regulation.

A Little Bit About Me...

I recently graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Human Development. However, before Human Development was my major, it was English Language. Through my four years at a major university, I have learned how to properly write research essays, what sources are credible for essays, and essay format. I also have had a pet-peeve for words that are incorrecly spelled and when there are grammatical errors in something professionally done.
I believe that children all come with different levels of cognition. Therefore, each child has their own learning pace. I like to give a child the time that he needs in order to accomplish his goal in learning. I have patience and am understanding--this would be a great benefit in working with children who need a little extra help in their studies.

I have a bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Brigham Young University with a 3.95 GPA in my math courses. I was top of my class in all my math classes and regularly tutored my classmates on the homework assignments. I also was in the mathematics graduate program for a year and a half. During this time I taught algebra, trigonometry, and calculus courses at Brigham Young University. I performed all the duties of a professor. I gave lectures, held office hours, graded homework, wrote and administered tests, personally tutored students and assigned final grades.
I am a very good teacher. I received very high performance reviews both from the faculty at BYU, and from my students in my classes. I am very good at taking very complex mathematical concepts and breaking them down into something that can be understood by beginning students. A Little Bit About Me...

I have worked in the electrical industry for the past seven years, with a two year hiatus to serve as a teaching missionay in Guatemala. I have a passion for learning, such that I earned my BS in Business Management in only three years of study at the Univeristy of Utah. Through my years of schooling, I have gain masterful skills in both English and Math, due to the many papers and courses I have taken in these fields of study. Due to my many courses in Management and years as a manager trainee, I understand how to motivate people in any circumstance. Also, because of my missionary work, I speak fluent Spanish and have taught people of all age groups and maturity levels.
I must admit that my experience with teaching is limited, however I love to sit down with groups of children and help them to discover new concepts and ways to learn the subject matter. I taught five year olds ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I did my internship at Springville High School and Dixon Middle School. At Dixon I was selected to help teach adults about the computer. I have 9 children. I was able to teach each of them. Some of them have gone on to higher education and have scholarships. I still have some at home and enjoy teaching them.
I like the tutoring environment because I like seeing individual progress. It is easier to assess where the child is. I believe that the basics are essential to moving forward in education. Memorization of math facts makes it easier for a child to learn new material because he isn't bogged down. I don't believe enough emphasis is placed on arithmetic in today's schools. Basic arithmetic skills make story problems easier. Types of story problems need to be practiced, not just thrown in at the end of a chapter without much information on how to do it. I am patient and ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

First and foremost, I love working with and teaching children. For that reason, my future plans are to be a pediatrician. They are so wonderful and nothing is more exciting than watching a child grasp a brand new concept. I believe that every child, if given the one-on-one attention they deserve, can not only learn but excel in any given subject. I give a 100% in all that I do, and I promise you that your child will receive nothing less. They will be better prepared for their subjects, and as a direct result, they will do better at school.
I grew up reading the nutritional panel on everything. I was absolutely fascinated how the body used the food that we eat to derive the energy and perform the tasks necessary for life. This interest in the human body led me to pursue a degree in nutrition. I recently graduated Brigham Young University the honored graduate of my college ... read more

More About This Tutor...

When I was younger I had a really tough time with my speech and with my reading/comprehension. I went through school constantly having to work slower and harder than most students in my class. I was so determined to get better at my learning disabilities that I decided to go to a tutor. With the extra great help and assistance I was able to catch up to most students in my class and continued to excel throughout grade school. Because of this learning disability, throughout most of my life I have been driven and passionate to work with children that may have the same problems that I had as a child. I worked as a volunteer with children that had literacy problems, worked as an assistant teacher with children that have a difficult time keeping up with the class.
I thoroughly enjoy working with students in any learning atmosphere. I have learned through years of working in both, a ... read more

Throughout my undergraduate studies at BYU, I taught and tutored in Spanish for up 24 hours each week. I supervised 5 districts of students, 10 teachers and up to 65 students at one time, while still teaching in the classroom. Additionally, I graded papers for college-level business courses for several years. As part of this experience, I provided feedback on writing, grammar, and content. I have now been a TA for more than 30 college business courses. I have finished all pre-medicine science classes with a science GPA of 3.3.
My teaching style is flexible depending upon the needs of my student(s). Some students have disabilities that make drilling or repetition styles of teaching and tutoring difficult and tiresome, while other thrive on it. Others need hands on learning opportunities and problems to work through on their own. Regardless of the student’s need, I am a tenacious ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I earned my Degree at BYU-Idaho where I majored in Math and minored in Health. While in college I taught some lower level math classes. I went on to work at a year round school working with troubled teens. I was able to learn many different teaching strategies to work with different personalities.
I have been able to develop a great teacher-student relationship of mutual respect and trust. I like to get to know the students learning style so I can adjust my teaching strategy to better fit them. I think it is important to create a situation where the student can feel successful, which will improve their confidence in learning.
