We see education as a meeting of minds, where every participant is on the same level. While a tutor may well have more knowledge of a subject than the student, learning is a communicative and collaborative process; the transmission of ideas can only happen when we acknowledge we each have something to learn from one another. Part of what makes Logic Studies so successful and distinctive is that we refuse to fall into the prescribed teacher-student dynamic. Never condescending and demonstrating mutual respect, the tutors at Logic Studies treat their students as peers, or coequals .

I have an extensive experience in the field of tutoring. For the past eight years, I have work with students from age kindergarten to highschool. From one-on-one tutoring, small groups, to helping a class of more than 60 students. Therefore, I can recognize each student's ability and devised a studying plan to help them improve their weaknesses. With a Bachelor degree in Biology and Chemistry, I have a strong background in science and mathematics. Furthermore, I have taken many courses in Writing, English, and grammar.
Each student has different ways to learn. Some students require a more visual approach while ohers prefer repetion through listening and writing. I try to find the best way to help students learn and retain information. I believe that with the right help, every student has the potential to achieve academic success.

My area of expertise is Mathematics. I have gained extensive mathematical knowledge by earning a BA in Mathematics from the rigorous program offered at Seattle Pacific University. I have experience tutoring a High School student in Algebra and Geometry. I also have experience tutoring an adult student in Algebra and Geometry. During college, I earned credits by being available to other college students, and primarily interacted with Intro level college math classes, as well as all levels of Calculus students.
I really enjoy working one on one with students, because in a one on one situation, I am really able to tailor my teaching to the individual. I try and recognize where the student is strong, and encourage those traits, while recognizing where they need growth, and doing my best to help them grow in those areas. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style focuses on teaching students how to find the big picture. If they understand what it is they are trying to do, then showing them how to get there becomes easier. Any student can learn math, and have the capability to understand numbers, this just comes harder for some and easier for others. In my past I have benefited greatly from some math teachers, and fallen behind in classes where I was not getting what the teacher was talking about. Tutors can be a great help in pushing students over a difficult concept or idea. Then, when the student is back on track, they can take their education in their own hands again.
During the last four years, I have spent a large amount of time working with, and around middle school and High school students. I have spent time in the classroom, worked with small groups, and spent one summer working with multiple summer camps up and do ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

For various reasons, we all learn in different ways. Often times this is difficult to address in a classroom setting, forcing teachers to address skills by giving particular instructions (how to write a paper, how to solve an equation, etc.) thereby making education a project of memorization more so than understanding. I believe it is important for students to grasp the broad concepts of their subject manner, through their particular learning style, then applying these to specific objects as opposed to the other way around. This not only allows for students to achieve in various exercises, but creates a context by which students can relate to their subject, thus internalizing it and creating a solid foundation to move forward from.

I am a senior at Reed College studying mathematics. While at Reed I have worked as both a grader and a tutor. Having graded assignments, I can quickly grasp multiple ways to approach a problem and give commentary where necessary. I also have experience working at an alternative school as a math tutor, with students who have trouble succeeding in traditional learning environments. Furthermore, being a current student and having recently taken the GREs, much of the material is still fresh in my mind.
As both a math student and tutor, I believe the most effective approach to learning is for the tutor to act as a guide, allowing the students to make the important connections. I am very patient and have good communication skills.

A Little Bit About Me...

I strongly believe that an education that leads with concepts instead of rote is the surest route to lifelong success. This is certainly the method that worked for me, and I find that, without the conceptual grounding, a student will not get as much out of necessary practice exercises. Thus, when I am working with a student on a subject, I tend to approach the concept foremost, creatively using a wide range of examples and descriptions to elucidate it. This is the best use of my time with a student, instead of just correcting their exercises. It also requires the confidence of the student to know that they can fully grasp a concept first, and then put it into practice, so I like to encourage that personal confidence.
Throughout my education, I've found that broad academic interests have led me to pursue a wide range of subjects simultaneously. My undergraduate degree is a double ma ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I am the second eldest of 6 children with a 20 year gap from the youngest to the eldest. They have taught me patience, understanding, adaptability, and creativity. I love teaching and helping children understand that math isn't just for nerds - math can be fun and above all - easy. I am a firm believer that a solid foundation in mathematics helps build reasoning skills, the ability to include logic in making decisions, and team-work. My goal is to bring back mathematics as another achievement in student's lives, and to remove the idea that math is a trend or something for "Smart kids" to do. After tutoring with me, I want my students to learn that math is not hard...it's as easy as pi!
As a Portland State University graduate, I have learned how important it is to have a solid math foundation to continue to build and achieve higher education. Through University of Oregon and Portlan ... read more

Living, studying and working in Ghana, the UK and the US has given me the opportunity to meet people of different backgrounds interacting, impacting and learning from them. I studied at the London School of Economics for my Masters in Operational Research as a Commonwealth Fellowship Scholar. Throughout my studies for both of my Masters degrees, I have exercised and developed my knowledge of academic and business report writing. I have also enjoyed varied teaching opportunities: GRE & GMAT Quantitative Prep Coach, graduate teaching assistant, summer instructor and tutoring.

A Little Bit About Me...

Having graduated from a liberal arts university, I know that being well-rounded is very important in life. I graduated from Whitworth with a BS in Math and minors in Spanish and Computer Science, so I know what it is like to learn complex subjects. I have tutored my peers along with students younger and older than myself, as a mathematician and a Spanish speaker. I led a Spanish Live Lab for two years and informally tutored math for four. Also, I have a great deal of grammatical knowledge from writing research papers in math and computer science and Spanish.
I love teaching and relating to people. I know from personal experience that one good teacher can change the way a student views an entire subject. I am easy-going, friendly, and patient. I believe that all students have great potential and should be given every opportunity to fulfill it.

A Little Bit About Me...

I received my Bachelors of Arts degree from Willamette University, where I majored in politics and minored in economics. I chose to work for a Bachelor's of Arts degree because it stresses a strong understanding of all subjects - this is the core of my approach to learning and education. During my senior year of high school I tutored math and science at a middle school for one year, and prior to this spent several years babysitting and assisting elementary school-aged children with their studies. Though my experience is limited to tutoring, it came easily to me and I am confident that I can help others better understand what I have already learned. As a student that has earned consistently high marks and test scores, I am in a great position to do this.
In my own experience, the key to learning has been to find a "critical link:" that is, to figure out an angle that makes sense to ... read more
