From age seven, I have had a passion for teaching and public speaking. I am involved with a continuing education program that hones speaking and teaching ability. In high school, I helped to pilot and served as captain of the Speech and Debate team (National Forensics League). I also worked as a Teacher Cadet. I took four years to volunteer at an educational center after high school where I completed an advanced course in public speaking. I was a full-time volunteer minister for 15 years total, and I dedicated much time to working with troubled and at-risk youths. For a year, I volunteered with Lapsits for Literacy. I have graduated from two technical courses in the air force and was a distinguished graduate from both. I graduated with honors from the Air Traffic Control Operators Course in 1983 with a 97% average. I was selected for instructor duty in 1986 and received extensive training on various instructing and teaching modalities along with counseling techniques. I enjoyed teaching so much that I went back to that profession, once again teaching for the air force from 2001-2003. I left that job to serve in Afghanistan as a civilian contractor as an air traffic controller and Chief Air Traffic Control Training. Rather, I require my students to learn and extensively practice even the most basic concepts until they are no longer problems, and this allows the students to move on to more complicated concepts, but, as needed, I patiently explain any concepts that are unclear. After finishing my PhD I went to work for Monsanto as an organic analytical chemist. My speciality was the use of mass spectrometry to understand organic chemical reactions and the products and impurities that were formed. While working for Monsanto I also taught College chemistry classes (Organic I and II and the labs). I have over forty publications and forty presentations.
