It has always been a pleasure for me to educate others. My teaching style is more of an easy going approach that allows people to feel comfortable enough to ask questions. I believe each persons rate of learning varies. The key is to feel the person out and develop a teaching approach that best fits them, like getting a suit tailor-made. This has always been my philosophy and it has always proven to be successful in the past. As I mentioned before, I have tutored individuals that were on the Dean’s List at DeVry University. Knowledge is power the key is to open people’s minds to receive that power.
I have two plus years of tutoring experience and ten plus years of practical accounting and business experience. While attending DeVry University, I served as a tutor for Math and Accounting. I’m happy to say that with my dedication and hard work the majority of my tutees, which were tec ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have no teaching experience but I'm in the process of getting my State Of Georgia teaching certification though troops to teachers program sponsor by the Georgia Department of Labor. I also applied and was accepted in the Thomson Learning program teaching ESL in South Korea for one year. I was also employed part time as a GED Test Proctor though Harrisburg Area Community College. I was a male mentor and a member of the Big Brother Program in Harrisburg PA.
The teaching style I prefer begins with making each child feel important and presenting the material in a way that everyone understands and feels comfortable. I'm currently enrolled in the Start Smart Early Childhood Subtitute teaching program sponsored though the United Way. This training provides an on hands class stimulation and different teaching methods. It is my goal to make learning fun and rewarding.

What I have learned working with students is that many do not learn in the same manner. I beleive in what is called top process learning. Given the student a concept and allowing them to explore the possibilities of how one arrives at such a concept has allowed deeper critical thinking and strategic planning. However, this method is not predominately taught in Georgia education system. I have found this method to be very effective. The other method is patience. Students who strugge with their academic learning usually are having other areas of difficulty which may be social learning. Having clinical training allows me to make a more accurate assessment.
During the last 10 years I have worked with all levels of students, preschool through college levels. These areas include reading, math, english, psychology, science and social studies. I am a self starter and have worked wi ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

One of the most distinctive attributes of my teaching style is the fact that I believe in discovery learning. I firmly believe that my job is to help the student discover. As such, I avoid 'telling'. Instead, I use modelling and focused activities to help students achieve their goals. After all, if the student understands why he does what he does then he is not likely to forget it and will be ablt to transfer that knowledge to other situations. That, to me, is true learning.
I have always had a passion for teaching and, as such, enrolled in a three-year teacher education college in Jamaica where I earned an honorary diploma in the teaching of secondary English. Upon graduation from college I was employed by my alma mater where I taught students ranging between the ages of 12-18. I remained in this job until December 2008, when I resigned in order to migrate to the US. In additi ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is to lead by example. Being that I am a visual learning I try to work in steps showing them what is expected and them I allow them to slowly work it out themselves based off of what I've done. I've done a lot of teaching to children with Autism and our teaching style varied to fit the way the child was able to learn. I also took Educational Psychology in graduate school and learned the meaning of intentional teaching, which is teaching with the intent of having the student learn what you are teaching.

I have chosen education as a career because I believe that education is perhaps the most important function performed in our culture, or for that matter, any culture. I believe that teachers individually and collectively can not only change the world, but improve it, and in the process find personal and professional renewal. I want to be part of this noble profession, and someday to be counted among those in whom future preservice teachers found inspiration.
In my experience as a tutor, I can definitely say that it is one of several enjoyable jobs that a college-graduate such as I can have.
