I have been teaching in the elementary and middle school classrooms for 13 years. I have worked as an after school tutor during many school years with 5-12 graders. In addition to the tutoring, I also directed an after school gifted and talented program where students engineered, designed, and created new inventions. I was a counselor at Camp Invention during the year 2011 which was another opportunity to engage students in learning outside of the classroom. Reading, Spelling, and Phonics all go together. I have won spelling competitions throughout my schooling. Knowing basic phonics aids in spelling. Also, repetition of reading the word, writing the word, and saying the letters of the word helps in memorizing spelling words. I prefer a hybrid teaching style.
