When students are engaged, they can better grasp the concepts being taught. I make sure to get to know my student's interests so that I can relate what they are learning to situations that happen in their own lives. I have an Associates in Arts and Teaching degree from Leeward Community College on O'ahu. At this moment, I am a volunteer English/English as a Second Language Tutor at our community library. I tutor two elementary students in Reading and Writing two times a week. The younger student has a hard time focusing. I tried variety of things to help her. When we meet, I ask her first how was her day so I would know if she is tired or how long her attention span would be. After I try to ask her to read a small book that she picks. I have also been a high school / middle school teacher in social studies / history / humanities for the past 4 years. I'm now working on my Masters at UH-Manoa.
