I spent 6 years tutoring my children who were ESE and ADHD and have been tutoring others for a year. My students range from first grade through college in mathematics and grades 1-8 in all subjects and preparation for FCAT, SAT, ACT. I believe the first step is to always ascertain where a student is in their comprehension of the subject and what their propensity is to learn (i.e. quick learner, learns by examples etc.). That gives me an idea of how fast/slow to go and how best to get to cement actual learning. Generally, I like to get the student to arrive at answers by asking pointed questions so that their minds can understand the process versus simply memorizing the answers.
