I have taught ESL professionally in Mendoza Argentina for the Universdad Nacional de Cuyo, and in Buenos Aires, Argentina for a provate compnay (C&C Language Solutions). I am no stranger to a standard text book curriculum or large groups. That was very similar to my experience teaching at the University in Mendoza. Although i really enjoyed teaching for the private company because i had the chance to meet with the clients/students beforehand, discuss with them (in their mother tongue or in the target language) what they wanted to get out of the program. As a teacher, I try to instill in the students a sense of ownership of the class, encouraging them to take charge of their own education, and not limit themselves to studying only the material presented in class. I try to teach by leading the students toward a goal by asking open-ended questions of them, rather than giving prescriptive instructions or dictating units of knowledge set in stone. I try to open students up to the concept of learning as exploration and discovery, a process that can be exciting and fun instead of tedious.
