A Little Bit About Me...

For the past three years I have taught first grade in Florida. For one year I tutored third grade students in a Saturday School program. I have worked for a learning center providing educational support to students of all levels during the summer. While teaching in Florida I obtained an ESOL endorsement on my teaching certificate through 300 hours of training. In addition, I have worked closely with the veteran teachers in my school to gain skills toward becoming a more effective educator.
My philosophy towards education involves connecting with my students individually to motivate them and maximize their potential. A Little Bit About Me...

Although I have earned my degree, BS in Psychology, my previous education includes 2 years at St. John's College in Santa Fe, New Mexico and 2 years of Engineering at Oregon State University. The years at St. John's have given me the unusual ability to tutor students in Ancient Greek. They laid a foundation in Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry and Calculus which the years of Engineering built up further. At the high school and college level I am also currently able to tutor Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Astronomy, Psychology and Anthropology.
My teaching style is probably best suited to high school and college students. Although I successfully helped my own 3 children through their elementary school, high school and college years, my tutoring experience has been with older students. Florida Writes is an assessment of writing proficiency which incorporates the assessment of higher order skills, since students are required to generate and develop the ideas that form the basis for their written responses. Prior to 2010, a student could have received a half-point score, such as 4.5; whereas since 2010, no half-point scores are possible.
