Although I have earned my degree, BS in Psychology, my previous education includes 2 years at St. John's College in Santa Fe, New Mexico and 2 years of Engineering at Oregon State University. The years at St. John's have given me the unusual ability to tutor students in Ancient Greek. They laid a foundation in Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry and Calculus which the years of Engineering built up further. At the high school and college level I am also currently able to tutor Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Astronomy, Psychology and Anthropology.
My teaching style is probably best suited to high school and college students. Although I successfully helped my own 3 children through their elementary school, high school and college years, my tutoring experience has been with older students. My philosophy towards education involves connecting with my students individually to motivate them and maximize their potential. Because children’s needs are so diverse, I am careful to set individualized, attainable goals for them. Otherwise, a frustrated child will quickly lose his excitement for learning. I believe in creating hands-on activities that trigger creative thinking, and I’ve found this technique promotes learning well beyond the immediate lesson. Also, I maintain a flexible environment, allowing my students to feel more control over their daily interests and lessons.
For the past three years I have taught first grade in Florida. For one year I tutored third grade students in a Saturday School program. Florida Writes is designed to measure students' proficiency in writing responses to assigned topics within a designated testing period. Find your tutor now. Beginning in 2010, each essay was scored by one rater. In previous years, two raters were used and the scores were averaged. Prior to 2010, a student could have received a half-point score, such as 4.5; whereas since 2010, no half-point scores are possible.
