I truly enjoy what I do. I love enabling students to achieve their goals, become self sufficient, and successful. I teach to the individual, looking for individual strengths and weaknesses; then modify my approach to meet the needs of the individual student. My goal is to enable the student to be and do their best.
I have many years of experience working with students of all ages and abilities. I have taught in public schools, in private schools, with troubled and behavior problem youth, incarcerated youths (13-20 years of age), as well as home-schooled students, small group, and one-on-one. I have tutored students in all levels of math, science, English, Spanish, social studies, and history. I also have experience with SAT and ACT prep.

My teaching style is probably best suited to high school and college students. Although I successfully helped my own 3 children through their elementary school, high school and college years, my tutoring experience has been with older students. My wife is a Montessori trained teacher so I have absorbed that method for tutoring. Each student must be viewed as an individual to define the areas of weakness and fill them in. It is only when the student understands the basics of a subject that they can build a future in it.
Although I have earned my degree, BS in Psychology, my previous education includes 2 years at St. John's College in Santa Fe, New Mexico and 2 years of Engineering at Oregon State University. I have recently graduated from Grove City College (PA) with a Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology. During my undergraduate studies, I was introduced to a curriculum largely in the fields of chemistry, physics, advanced mathematics (calculus I,II,III),genetics and biochemistry. I was exposed to a very rigorous survey of the general sciences with demanding writing requirements. Likewise, I am very proficient at communicating in the language of science. I have also taught several mid-term and final review sessions as an upper classmen.

A Little Bit About Me...

I spent two years teaching and tutoring Autistic children. I aided in routine skills, verbal skills and dealing with change. I have worked with two different children on these skills. I also have extensive skills in writing and researching for my research papers. I also have great knowledge of APA format and can write an essay in no time flat.
I love working with children. I have helped with pre-K and grade school children with an emphasis on working with Autistic children. All children can succeed in school given the right tools; just because they do not get the idea from one method does not mean that they won't get it from a different method. I think that all children can learn regardless of age, learning ability or other status, if given a chance.

Nothing excites me more than seeing someone understand something about how the human body works, because I think the human body is fascinating. All the functions that our body must perform at all times for us to live is amazing. My style as a tutor is to try and talk the student through whichever process is in question, and then try to explain the material in a new way. I try to simplify what is being learned, and then the student can build on what he/she understands. My goal is for the student to understand the material, not just get through the process.
