I am patient yet firm. I expect students to be accountable for their own success; I want my students to become self-sufficient. With proper guidance and encouragement most students will succeed if not excel.
I taught high school English for three years. My students ranged from far below basic to advanced. My students consistently showed improvement in their standardized test scores and over 95% of my students passed the course. Also, Over 95% of my sophomore passed the CAHSEE. In addition to my high school experience, I have been tutoring adult learners for the past three years, becoming the program manager two years ago. In this roll, I administer assessments from which individual learning plans are developed for each student. I also recruit and train volunteer tutors to work with our students.

I use the Active Participation strategy because it engages the learner not only in understanding but in contributing as well. This active learning process combined with introduction of practical uses/examples of the the subject matter provides a deeper meaning. I have been a substitute teacher for about 10 years specializing in math & physics. I have a BS in Mechanical Engineering plus 20+ years of maintenance/engineering experience. My teaching style as a tutor is to help them to fully understand the concepts that are presented to them. After helping them with a number of problems, they should be able to do the rest on their own. I hope that by slowly guiding them, asking pertinent questions, and offering encouragement that they will become more confident in what they are doing. I received a PhD in psychology in 1974 from Claremont Graduate School. I taught 8 semesters at Ventura Community College and I have two community college credentials(psychology and special education). I am a licensed psychologist and I perform psychological assessments for the Department of Rehabilitation. I obtained an AA degree in mathematics in 1989. I currently work part-time as an Instructional Assistant at Sacramento City College.
