Learning Math can be FUN!

I try to explain concepts by explaining the methods behind them. Once a student understands the concepts, it is easier for them to apply them to other problem situations.
With over 35 years experience teaching math, I have successfully taught students from third grade through college calculus. I enjoy math, and my students are able to understand it in a one-to-one teaching environment. During this time of closed schools, it is difficult for students to understand and adapt to this new way of learning. Many teachers are overwhelmed as they had to change their teaching methods with just a couple of months remaining in the school year. I have had several different interactions with children of all ages, spanning from elementary to college students, and have enjoyed every experience. I am excited about becoming a teacher to influence a number of kid's lives, but also love the impact that one-on-one tutoring can have. I have had the pleasant experience of learning how to teach/tutor at Salem College where the constructivist approach to learning is taught thoroughly.
I received my undergraduate Bachelor's degree from Wake Forest in 2006 in Religion and Political Science. I worked at Sloan Academics for one year in Winston-Salem as a academic tutor for a 6th-grade girl in all subjects. I started doing tutoring at the beginning of this year. I was tutoring a student in Chemistry and Math at the college level for about 2 months. I interviewed the student and found her needs and the curriculum she was taught in school. Based on that information, I tutored the student by explaining the material and ensuring it was understood. I also made sure the homework was done properly. I provided guidance in the specific subjects. Several years ago, I also tutored a grammar student in elementary math.
