A Little Bit About Me...

I am a certified teacher in the area of middle school social studies. I am now also qualified for high school certification. I have been working as a long-term substitute in Burlington area schools in social studies for the last 5 years. I have also been working as a paraeducator in special education. I have worked in all subjects. I have a high interest in math, and successfully advanced to, and passed, Calculus two in college. This past year I have been helping several students one-to-one in geometry, algebra, and algebra two. I have also taught small group and one-to-one reading and writing at the high school and middle level.

A Little Bit About Me...

It is difficult to describe my teaching style because I try to adapt to the student. Students learn differently and therefore it is my belief that you must observe first and then you have to adapt to the student, especially in a one on one situation. Some students may learn better if you play a game with them, others if you read them a passage. I try to learn as much as I can about the student and adapt to their individual needs, especially for those with learning disabilities and special needs.
I have had a deep interest in helping people since I was a young child. Seeing someone succeed because of my help is one of the greatest motivators for me, especially when it's "against the odds". As a college student I tutored the students who really wanted to learn but couldn't through no fault of their own--those with learning disabilities and non-native English speakers.
