I am a very patient teacher. If it seems someone is 'just not getting it' I will try a different approach. People learn at different levels, and what works for one does not always work for another; therefore,finding the way for each individual student is the key. I have also found that most people learn a task by 'hands on' learning, not listening to how it should be done. In this situation, giving someone the tools to do the work themselves gives them the confidence to do it, and feel good about conquering the challenge.
As a working professional, I was driven later in life to get a degree that was started right after high school. I believe teaching should be preparation for the real world outside of school. For that reason I strive to make all assignments relevant, meaningful, and useful to the students. I try to fuel motivation by making the assignments fun and purposeful. I hold students to a high standard as preparation for future jobs (no late work, no coming in to class late, etc.) I believe every student can be reached, but that all students are at different levels and require their own amount of one-on-one help, motivation, challenge, and dedication.
