This might be the course I have the most fun with! I started tutoring in high school for extra credit. I have primarily tutored in mathematics and general chemistry! I tutored a girl in Algebra 1 for a year, helped my best friend and her Mom with college mathematics, and worked through college algebra with my husband. In college I was a teachers assistant for general chemistry 1 and tutored in quantitative chemical analysis. Since then I have tutored a gentlemen for the math portion of his GED. I have taught mathematics in grades 3 through college. I especially enjoy working with high school students and college algebra and trigonometry students. Since my retirement from college teaching I have been tutoring at Sylvan Learning, teaching some grade school math, algebra, geometry and ACT prep. I especially enjoy working one-on-one with students because I am able to concentrate on his/her weaknesses. I like to use manipulatives and concrete examples whenever possible. After introducing a concept I work out examples with the student, then have him/her work through several examples while I watch and, finally, have the student work independently on a set of problems.
