My teaching style is casual - I am not stuffy or formal, and I try to get right to the heart of what is holding a student back, or what the difficulty is that he or she is having. I establish rapport and then dig into the meat and potatoes of the problems. This way, we tackle the problem together and a solution can be found.

I volunteer for HOBY (Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Seminar) every year. This program pushes facilitation, which is what I strive to do. I like to try to facilitate and push my students to ask questions and talk to me as a peer. I always try to give at least three compliments to every criticism because students are often too hard on themselves. For some reason, most of the students I have worked with have had an English teacher along the line who has made them feel "stupid." It is amazing what boosting confidence can do!
