Former newspaper writer/editor looking to help writers

I am a former newspaper writer/editor having worked in the journalism business for 18 years. I worked as a sports writer for the first half of my journalism career, having covered the Dallas Cowboys and Dallas Mavericks. I interviewed professional athletes, coaches, and league officials to find out what was going on with the team and I attended home and away games and wrote about what happened. My comments on tutoring Spelling : I have many techniques that I have shared with students of all ages in order to help them master spelling or compensate for a disability in this area.

For the past three years, I have been teaching Writing at Austin Community College. Prior to that I taught teachers as an online facilitator for PBS. In addition, I have been a special education teacher and coordinator and an English/Language Arts/Reading teacher in Texas, Ohio, Connecticut, and New York.
I believe that all students can learn to read and write with an approach individualized for each learner regardless of the age.

Spelling is one of my top subjects!

My comments on tutoring Spelling : Bad spelling and grammar are two of my biggest pet peeves.

I don't any paid, professional tutoring experience. However, I have volunteered my services to family members and friends. During my sophomore year, I took Organic Chemistry and excelled. However, my friends were struggling. They hated me a bit for how easy it came to me. I decided to tutor them and help them with homework assignments and studying. They ended up doing very well on the exams, allowing them to secure a 3.0 or higher in the course. I also had to regular help my classmates out with more complex problems in Physics. I was not so much tutoring as working together with them on the homework, but still, it involved clear explanation and a thorough knowledge of the subject matter.
