Creative Writing is one of my top subjects! I am a writer and have published a book. I taught writing every year of my thirty-two year career.

I have worked with children and teens all my life. I was a camp counselor at a YMCA camp for 6 summers in my teens and early 20s. I taught 5th grade my first year (class of 36 students!) and then taught 3rd grade for a year, 2nd grade for three years, and 4th grade for three years--all in public schools. Then I taught English at the middle school level for four years in a private school. After that I subbed and tutored for a year until I was hired to teach in a K-8 building at the 8th grade level. I taught there for nearly 20 years before I retired, teaching science, pre-algebra, and communication arts (English, reading, vocabulary, writing, grammar, and spelling.) While in that position, I was the sponsor of the science fair, building-wide, for nearly ten years. Since retirement, I have subbed, tutored, have written and published a book, and am writing a daily blog.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have worked as a tutor for 5 years. I worked as a volunteer peer tutor at my high school throughout my time there and fell in love with it. I am now a freshman at Saint Louis University majoring in biology on a pre-medical track. I have tutored in a variety of subjects ranging from biology, zoology, algebra 1, algebra 2 and chemistry to english and composition.
I am a huge supporter students tutoring students. I have found that working with students helps to take down a barrier between the tutor and tutee. Students are more comfortable to work with peers than an authority. My first priority is to listen, listen to what the tutee is looking to get out of the experience. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe every child has the right to learn. I believe every child learns different. I believe in teaching according to the way a child learns. I am more open to the one-on-one teaching because I believe that this allows that student and the teacher to build a better rapport with one another, therefore the teacher is better able to understand how the student learns and is able to help the student better succeed. This is better for the student as well because he/she now has that one-on-one interaction with the teacher that they are not able to have in a traditional classroom. They are able to ask more questions, and understand their materials better.

I have a Bachelor's degree in History and an Associate's in Process Technology. I am a member of Phi Theta Kappa honor society. I possess excellent math skills and took statistics in college. I enjoy helping others and feel I am a good fit for this position.

Learning should be fun. I strive to make a point of this when ever I teach. I do this in both lectures and tests. I find a little humor takes the edge off test taking and allows the student to concentrate on the subject matter without being nervous.
I have taught Accounting courses at a JC and Business College in the St. louis area. I also taught Accounting and Finance courses at a Business College in Raleigh, NC. I enjoyed the experience and look forward to continuing.
