After having raised 4 children, I know that each child has a different learning style. One may be very able to understand abstract thoughts and teaching styles while the other may not. Therefore, tutoring must be done on a very individual basis. I enjoy hands-on teaching and one-on-one interaction with students. Good writing can simplify the thought process, and leads to students becoming better thinkers and communicators. I am easy-going and patient, but I take language and writing very seriously. There is no excuse for poor or careless writing, and I believe that an easily-taught, simple approach, can unlock the potential of any writer. I achieved an English degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where my senior thesis was selected as a finalist for the UW Creative Writing prize. I am passionate about the English language, but I think that writing is becoming a lost art. Quality writers are quality communicators. As writing in general falls into disrepair, those who can write clearly and read critically will have an edge in every institution they enter--from the University, all the way to the workplace.

While working as an MTEC intern, I was trained in Direct Instruction and Power Writing. I later conducted several workshops for Carson Academy’s staff members as well. I also coordinated the Monthly Writing Challenges for the middle school department. I am a member of UW Milwaukee’s - Milwaukee Area Academic Alliance in English. In 2005, I co-planned The Teaching Writing Across Disciplines Showcase. I then invited several of Carson Academy’s students to participate in the program.
