One on one tutoring style--I provide one on one tutoring sessions that include the use of a variety of instructional strategies including worksheets, workbooks, sight words, vocabulary, Venn diagrams and charts, flash cards, compositions and educational websites. Group tutoring is available that would involve using the same instructional strategies, but the instruction would take place in a group setting of 2 or more students and could involve the Jigsaw method which involves all students collaborating together to achieve academic skills.

A Little Bit About Me...

Having moved between English, History, and Anthropology during my undergraduate years, I've surveyed quite an extensive portion of the social sciences. A Little Bit About Me...

I began teaching/tutoring while in graduate school. I tutored undergrads in sociology, psychology, and social statistics. I also taught driver's education to high school students while in grad school. After ten years working in law enforcement, I switched to social services and I have been mentoring children in foster care for the past twenty years.
I try to keep the material fresh and I avoid boredom and repetition at all costs. One of my best tools to connect with a young person is through humor. If the student feels relaxed they are more likely to absorb the information. I also use reverse psychology to turn the tables so they actually find themselves teaching me the material. This has been a successful tool with children I have mentored as well as my own children.

At the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga I received an excellent education where I got my BA in History with a minor in Sociology. There I was taught by excellent professors who instilled in me passions for history, sociology, and intellectual discussion. I also wrote many papers which have given me good grammatical skills.
