I use Socratic questioning strategies and experiential learning to ensure that students understand why a concept applies rather than just memorizing formulas. I use manipulatives and visual aids to ensure that multiple modalities are integrated. I work with the whole student as a person, identifying how the student learns and teaching the student how to adapt various teaching styles to his/her learning style.
I have 9 years of experience teaching high school; all courses - AP Calculus, pre-calculus, algebra 2, geometry, algebra, pre-algebra (including special needs and english learners), and practical applications. Over the last 20 years, I have tutored students in all of the above subjects as well as elementary math concepts, writing strategies, and reading recovery. I am NCLB certified and focused on the defined national & state standards of each subject.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a graduate from UNC Charlotte, I earned a BS degree in Mathematics with a minor in Chemistry. I have strong grammatical and organizational skills from writing lab reports, the ability to express logic from writing proofs, and a strong knowledge of how to study effectively. As a tutor and through organized training sessions, I have learned how to deal with many different situations, including students with a learning disability and non-traditional students. As a tutor for UNC Charlotte for the past two and a half years, I have tutored students in many introductory college Chemistry and Math courses, as well as in advanced and remedial Math courses. The College Reading and Learning Association has certified me as a level 2 tutor as well.
