I believe that learning should be fun and effective. A Little Bit About Me...

My education is from Brazil. I have graduated from LETRAS, TRADUTOR/INTERPRETE at the Universidade Ibero Americana in Sao Paulo. Since 1991 I have been teaching ESL for Brazilian students. Once I moved to the USA, I have had the experience of working as an ESL teacher for the Latino Community in some palces in Eugene, Oregon. Right now I am working at Springfiled High School as a bilingual assistant providing help to the ELL students.
When I was working as an ESL teacher in Brazil, each school used to have their own material. We used to participate in trainings to get familiar with the material and then start teaching. I developed my "own" style at teaching ESL in which I was very focused on the oral part. I tried to develop conversational classes to my students. Besides that I was teaching grammar and other skills like : listening, reading and writing in English.

A Little Bit About Me...

I teach in a collaboratively with students. I believe that treating students more as equals and less and repositories for teacher originated information, is more conducive to learning. I present students with the information and let them build their own understanding.
As part of my undergraduate degree I taught English to adults. I taught English in Korea for one year before enrolling in my Masters of Education program. During the program I had two student teacher placements. My first placement was in a middle school mathematics class and my second placement was in a self-contained 5th grade classroom.

More About This Tutor...

I have always preferred an interactive teaching style. At times in Mongolia I found the language barrier to be inhibiting the learning of the students. This caused me to explore different teaching methods which I otherwise would have never considered. For example, I often chose to teach language by acting out the word or phrase, or having a student act it out. However, there were some classes that were not responsive to this type of teaching and, as a result I resorted to what I had previously considered arcane and authoritarian: repetitious call and response, and by rote. These methods proved to be effective for certain classes. As a result, I am now open to any possible number of teaching methods.
