Versatile Hands-on Tutor for all Age ranges

Throughout my academic career, I have done in-class tutoring in exchange for credit. I have also helped my family members, neighbors, and friends to study, complete homework, and even do reports. My range of subjects is very versatile, anything from Oceanography, to Intercultural Communications, to Culinary Arts, and even 3D sculpture and design. Of course outside of these elective type courses, I have a 3.7 GPA in my general education, including Math, English, Science, and Social Studies. I attended a charter high school, where we took outside the box classes that met the state regulations. I believe in the Democratic approach to Educating the young. I start the year by asking the students what they would like to learn that year and we record this on a large sheet of paper. Students feel happy to know their wishes are so considered and then at the end of the year we review the list and they see that they have covered everything they wanted to learn and much more. I am seriously concerned with the self-esteem of each children and work to elevate this so that the children will be able to grow and achieve the most that they can while in my class. I love children and I love teaching.

A Little Bit About Me...

Given the right atmosphere, I honestly believe anyone can learn. Unfortunately, many individuals are given labels, especially regarding their learning capacity, and once that belief system is in place, the expectations are often lowered and self-esteem suffers. I believe in positive encouragement and support, while working through difficulties with a 'can do' attitude on my part which then becomes, with reinforcement and consistency, the belief of the child. Encouraging curiosity and problem solving gives children the tools to succeed in many areas outside as well as inside the classroom.
