My comments on tutoring Chess : i have been playing chess all my life. I have been in 4 chess clubs through out elementary, middle, and high school. IN 6th grade, I competed against the whole middle school, and came in first place, landing my name on a plaque still in the school. recently i have not been competing much, just leisurely playing for fun

i am just a twenty year old college student, Who has learned a lot in this world, and looking to pass it on to whomever it might effect. Very caring, musical, and a great people person. A Little Bit About Me...

I was more of an instructor than a teacher. I was a day camp counselor at Solway House parent/child resort in Saugerties N.Y. I instructed kids how to swim, dive, play various sports and gave dancing lessons to the guests. As a high school student I tutored 7th and 8th graders in an after school community center. I was one of a few staff at the University of Connecticut to instruct graduates and staff in the use of the various electronic facilites available to them.
I feel children are very self-aware and are very vulnerable to positive and negative feedback. Therefore, no matter how little progress is made, praise them. If no progerss is made or if an issue needs to re-addressed, praise them..."That was great, but let's try it this way!" I am easy going, energetic, very passionate (especially when teaching calculus and physics), and engaging. In most cases it takes only a few sessions and students are having fun. I believe that most students can understand mathematics with a proper explanation. For example, the order of operations is usually presented to students without explanation for its existence. This gives the false sense that it is an arbitrary rule. I enjoy sharing my understanding to students, but I also enjoy providing a role model for my students. If I show compassion to a students it is almost always reciprocated. Academic excellence is a virtue but so is being a kind and caring person. I like to spread this through my teaching style.
