During my time at Hocking Technical College, I was taking alot of biology related classes such as Botany, Ohio Trees, Aquatic Ecology and many other related classes. I always try to start from "where the student is" and build on from starting point. I believe in positive reinforcement and that anything worth having in life requires consistent effort. I frequently am told after a day of subbing, "Mr. Burns, you are the greatest sub ever!" My wife and I also still perform as musicians in local restaurants, including several Mexican restaurants where we perform many songs in Spanish.
I taught Middle School band for 30 years in the public schools, followed by 9 years part-time at the respected Old Trail School in Bath, OH. I enjoy teaching adults as well as high school students. I do not have much training teaching below junior high; however, I am confident that I could successfully teach math or language. Although, I don't mind the traditional classroom setting, I am quite used to instructing on a one-to-one basis. Our GED programs are completely individualized for learners to move at their own pace, and I encourage this type of teaching style when manageable.
